Abstract
Improving the Quality of the Government Authorized Korean Language Arts Textbook Park, Young-mok Beginning in the mid-1990s, the government issued Korean language arts textbook came attack from a number of different sources. Literacy researchers criticized many aspects of the government issued textbook on an extensive body of research on the literacy process. Based on this body of research, they argued that current theory and research about literacy education are not reflected properly in the Korean language arts textbooks. The balanced Korean language arts instruction is a complex collage of modeling, interacting, guiding, assessing, practicing, and motivating readers and writers. How the student processes textbook determines ultimately what gets comprehend. From the initial perception, associ- ation, and decoding to the executive control of comprehension processes, the student most affects what gets understand. Having now entered the 21st century, we look forward to a renewed interest in instructional research in literacy education. The result of these research should guide the publishers as they develop new Korean language arts textbook. Further research on the textbook compilation is essential to the significant improvement of Korean language arts text- book.
