Abstract

This study is to design teaching contents and methods of grammar education focusing on nouns in order to develop students' thinking in perceiving the characteristics of grammar knowledge from the essence of language itself. This research set the goal of grammar education:‘thinking grammar’ -improving leaner's thinking ability and ‘a human with logical thinking ability’. I draw thinking methods out of grammar knowledge itself and research teaching methods about them. First, I conduct thinking processes from speaker's cognition about the world such as categorization, conceptualization, abstraction, and relation, and suggest some practical ways focusing on semantic functions of nouns to apply it to a real classroom. I make up the contents of teaching based on essential characteristics of nouns including common, proper, abstract, and form nouns. I also propose teaching methods related to classification, distinction, analysis, abstraction and interpretation to teach effectively the contents of teaching. In conclusion, I try to grope for the contents and methods of noun education by integrating semantic functions with thinking. I intend to introduce the contents of pedagogical grammar to a real Korean class. If so, the contents of teaching must be designed for developing grammatical thinking in pedagogical grammar. Grammatical thinking should verify thinking function of grammar. This study will be a starting point to construct pedagogical grammar as thinking grammar.
