A Critical Review on the Contents of Storytelling Education in the Listening and Speaking Domain

Abstract

This study has purposes to present the significance of storytelling-discourse in the listening and speaking domain, and to suggest directions for learning and teaching ways of storytelling education by studying critically the contents of storytelling education in the revised national curriculum Considering the contents of storytelling education In the listening and speaking it attaches to structures of stories with insufficiency of nonverval and paralinguistic expressions. And it makes hard to communicate reciprocally on account of being constituted with unilateral speaking and listening structures. The sequence of storytelling-discourse extent has no choice but for studentsto learn types of stories limitedly and the contents are also listed in parallel not in hierachy. At the aspect of expression and comprehension, it focuses on comprehension than expression for the lower grades. The directions of storytelling education in the listening and speaking domain should be as following;1. Storytelling education should be structured with nonvervaland paralinguistic expressions and mutual level. 2. Owing to limited level and extend of storytelling-discourse, with stories arranged in the order of imaginary stories, fictional facts, and fact structures, students should have opportunities to carry out according to it’s objective and for each grade. 3. Storytelling education should have balance between comprehesion and expression, and distictions with reading and writing education.
