Categorization of Argumentation Schemes by TV Debates Analysis

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to categorize argumentation schemes that was used customarily in Korea's argumentive communication by TV debate discourse analysis. The preliminary results, 10 debates of the 16 debate study data is not suitable. So Only 6 debates (The total amount of transcription 262,761 words) in the final study data were confirmed. Analysis results of argument with relevance to topics and demonstration relevance, researcher could be extracted 8 kinds of argumentation schemes. That is induction scheme, presumption scheme, deduction scheme, cause and effect scheme, feeling of expectation scheme, authority scheme, dissociation scheme, analogy scheme. Induction argumentation is 27.17%, presumption argumentation is 16.57%, deduction argumentation is 11.41%, cause and effect argumentation is 10.86%, feeling of expectation argumentation is 9.23%, authority argumentation is 8.96%, dissociation argumentation is 8.15%, analogy argumentation is 7.60%. The results of this paper provide opportunity to verify the earlier studies, and will contribute selection of argumentation scheme with high educational value.
