The Relationships between Leadership and Speech Related Variables in College Students

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the relationships betweenleadership in college students and speech related variables such as communicativeapprehension and communicative traits. According to theexamination of domestic studies concerning the leadership and factorsrelated to speech, few studies have focused on these relationships. Thisstudy was conducted with 323 engineering students and 131 humanitiescollege students at P University. Findings showed that firstly, there weresignificant gender and grade differences in leadership of college students. Second, there were significant gender and grade differences in communicativeapprehension. Third, there were significant gender differences inverbal aggressiveness. However, there were no significant gender, gradeand major differences in argumentativeness. Besides, we found a highcorrelation among leadership, communicative apprehension and communicativetraits. From these findings, it is needed to refine the instructivemodules of speech as well as verify their validities.
