Inquiry of Narrative Analysis in Korean Education

Abstract

This study aims at developing systematic ways of the qualitative research to scrutinize times and places where Korean language education occurs. Based on the Riessman’s approach of narrative analysis, a various typologic ways of narrative analysis were introduced as follows: 1) Thematic analysis; 2) Systematic analysis; 3) Interactive analysis and others. The interactive analysis of narratives was demonstrated by using an example of data systematically analyzed in a previous research. As a result, it reveal that the systematic analysis of narratives or narrative analysis allows in-depth inquiry to see how discourses of significant others are transacted and negotiated in the sociocultural process of narrative construction as a student’s literacy practices as well as identity construction.
