Abstract

The aim of this study was to develop an “instructional model for audience consideration education” that can be applied in “liberal arts speech” classes at universities. The purpose of this instructional model is to strengthen the learners’ skills with regard to audience consideration and persuasive expression. The model is organized to instill an understanding of the principles and methods used to practice audience consideration, as well as how to apply the concepts learned to practical persuasive speech exercises. Furthermore, this instructional model was designed so that learners can rotate between active speaker and listener roles, as well as serve as evaluators. The “instructional speech model for audience consideration education” in this study was developed on the basis of ADDIE, a general model for instructional systems design. This study reported on the specific model design process and the results of the model’s application in a university setting.
