Abstract
This study started with the belief that Korean language history and classical literature can improve the quality of Korean education by promoting an accurate understanding of Korean words and texts and by pursuing more delicate literary interpretations through mutual exchange and cooperation. Although Korean language history and classical literature share the paint of “archaic words” and the canvas of “pre-modern times,” there are no concrete practices of communication and exchange between them, and there has been no collaboration based on their commonalities. The present study aimed at an extensive examination of this issue, from fundamental questions such as the importance of understanding the orthography and grammar of archaic words for an understanding of classical literary works, to specific methods to promote the effective appreciation of classical literary works through an enhanced understanding of archaic words. The process of sharing and discussing such information will allow each subject’ to complement the other’s lacunae, and offers a chance atto reaching a new dimension regardingof research on Korean language history and classical literature, as well as improving Korean education. The present study will hopefully serve as a meaningful starting point forof this journey.
