In order to support students’ integrated reading education (reading one book in a semester) in the 2015 revised Korean language curriculum, the Ministry of Education and 17 provincial offices of education entrusted a web service, “Book Fruit” (https://ireading.kr) with development of study to support reading education for elementary school students and teachers. The main goal was to develop a platform to aid elementary school teachers in searching for, using, and sharing books and instructional materials that can be used for a semester’s reading curriculum. To achieve this goal, AI based book recommendation system was designed and developed by analyzing user data such as user search frequency, preferences, reading reviews, and book rankings based on metadata comprising existing and new book information. Additionally, instructional materials for teachers and reward systems for students were provided. In conclusion, the significance and the future direction of this study are discussed.
