Abstract
Most of the reading in the digital age can be said to be reading in the multimodal text. Readers should be educated to be equipped to possess reading skills to understand meaning in visual, auditory, and spatial styles. Accomplishing this must be preceded by checking how they are currently reading and understanding multimodal text. Accordingly, this paper conducted eye-tracking and reading comprehension tests on 123 fifth-grade elementary school students in the process of reading multimodal text. Based on the results, it was classified into four latent groups and the characteristics of gaze movement in reading multimodal text for each latent group was analyzed. Furthermore, the necessity of exploration and interpretation education, and reading research including videos were suggested.
