Abstract

The resource-based theory of the firm suggests that the inimitability and evolutionary path of firm resources play a crucial role in determining a firm's performance. This implies that the success of an entrepreneurial firm can be influenced by the inherent characteristics of existing resources and the potential value of future resources. Research opportunities in entrepreneurship can be explored through a framework that emphasizes four key aspects: posing important and interesting research questions, challenging prevailing assumptions, understanding the context and phenomenon, and conceptualizing, theorizing, and analyzing data. This study provides an overview of the current status and future research opportunities in the entrepreneurship field, with a particular focus on creation theory. It contrasts effectuation, resourcefulness, and bricolage with the dominant discovery theory. These approaches emphasize the capabilities entrepreneurs need to create opportunities under high uncertainty, rather than simply discovering and exploiting pre-existing opportunities.
