It is the purpose of pronunciation teaching that people can pronounce according to social norms so as to communicate with each other effectively. For this purpose Standard Pronunciation is provided and everyone should have a good command of SP not only for official or formal utterences but also for casual utterences as the needs for effective communication arises. Desirable teaching of pronunciation can be achieved on tne basis of a survey on the students' pronunciation and a research on the educational method and guidance. In particular, pronunciation survey should be performed differently from ordinary survey on regional dialects. Contents of pronunciation teaching can be divided into two parts: the exact pronunciation of phonemes and the correct pronunciation of words including conjugational forms and inflectional forms.
