Abstract

Korean Language Teacher and Standard Language Chu, Kyung-heeThis paper is written for Korean language teacher and focuses on what is standard language. In this paper I describe standard language as an intersection of dialectal and diatypic varieties. It is important that training of teachers should be independent and necessary as teachers are in charge of education in the field. The reason why standard language is dealt in training of teachers is that teachers should rightly understand the view of usage of standard language in curriculum. When we think standard language in view of norm, it does not suit language point of korean education since we may think standard language as correct or right language and have narrow-minded and stiffly view of language. In view of language use, standard language is one of diversity since it is used just in certain environment of formal and written language.Standard language is used in this situation since it shares the same use environment because standard language has objective and neutral meaning in comparison to the dialect. We do not always standard language. Therefore we don't and should not ask it in korean language education. However, this does not mean that standard language education is not necessary. We need to show the reason and necessity of complete education and use of standard language when we get to environment to use standard korean.
