Media Literacy Education in the Training Program for the Secondary School Teachers

Abstract
The purpose of this article is to examine the aspects of media literacy education in the training program for the secondary school teachers, to point out several problems of the program and to suggest solutions for the problems. Examining the curriculum of department of Korean language education and the program of education training institutes, this study explores that there is concern about carrying out media literacy education. Because there is no course about media education in some curricula and programs and there are some incongruent cases nationally and socially. This study suggests several solutions about those problems in media literacy education for teachers. Firstly, the standard for designing curriculum is needed to compensate the defeats in preservice and inservice. Secondly, teachers, students, parents, educational specialist, and scholars need to change the way they regard those with media literacy education. Thirdly, the essential contents should be selected for systemic media literacy education for teachers. Fourthly, the practical tasks for media literacy education for teachers such as education and supply of instructors, establishment and expansion of inservice programs, and writing and supply authentic textbooks should be implemented.
