Abstract
While Korean society has changed toward multicultural society very rapidly, the role of Elementary Korean language education as a social integration instrument for children in multicultural families is growing.. In this paper, the author argues that Korean language education field must be expanded to include KSL (Korean as a second language) and bilingual education for children from multicultural families. She also examines that children from multicultural families have suffered from difficulties such as poverty, lack of Korean language proficiency, and crisis of identity in school. Children from multicultural families can be a very valuable social resource in our society if we help them overcome their language problems through the innovation of public school system. And finally we have to support children from multicultural families through a development of KSL curriculum and KSL Program, training for professional Korean teachers, development of KSL textbooks.
