A Critical Review on the Content Standards of ‘listening & speaking’ Section of 2011 Korean Language Curriculum

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyzed the curriculum 2011’s appropriateness of content standards. The area of analysis was ‘Listening & Speaking’, and the standard of analysis was based on the validity of content, clarity of the statement, and hierarchy of level. The primary data came from the surveys of 101 teachers, which showed that ‘Listening & Speaking’ section’s content standards had weakness that needs to be fixed. The results can be summarized as follows. (1) In Listening & Speaking Section, the appropriateness of content standards was generally lower level. Middle school’s content standards specially showed serious problems. (2) The cause of lower content validity was that the not considering the principles or criteria of integration (3) The cause of lower clarity of statements was that the goal of skill and knowledge was not clear or the concept of content standards was off the expected thematic category. (4) The cause of lower hierarchy of level was that the developments aspects of target students or the connectivity of discourse genre were not considered.
