A Study on Presenting Method of Story in Novel Reading Education

Abstract
Currently in Korean Language and Literature Textbooks, there are not many cases containing the whole novels, summarized version of the story, shortened into 200 ~ 300 words, is being provided. Psychology of character, writing style and voice tone cannot be verified with such quantity-summarized types of stories. Thereby, through this thesis, a possibility of delivering story method was considered with quality-summarized version. For this purpose, when propose a quality-summarized version, following conditional characteristics were set up. First, appropriacy of quantity. Quality-summarized version must contain not only the higher structure but partial conversations or situational scenes which allow to understand writing style, voice tone, psychology of characters Second, Completion of the story. When deliver the story, should present, focusing on main events, the whole story’s event spread out and conflict structure. Third, Coherence of the story. The contents of quality-summarized version should be reconfigured for each composition step. Because, the composition is the spread of aligned events done by the intention of the writer. Fourth, abbreviation of the story. Meaning composition unit, objects of understanding and expression and context should be considered during summarized process. The summarized principles of words simplification, syntactic simplification, context simplification, composition simplification and literary simplification can be arranged. Fifth, Literariness of Expressions. While quality-summarized version proposes the higher structure in compressed way, it still needs to maintain the overall mood of the work, voice tone, writing style and conversation. If the quality-summarized version of the story considering those conditional characteristics is delivered, the limitation of the current story teaching method can be overcome. Therefore, in terms of literature education perspective, allowable mood of quality-summarized version is being used as textbooks of literature education(especially, story instruction material) could always be adjustable.
