Abstract

The purpose of this research is to explore the reading attitudes modelof korean middle school and high school students using survey developedby McKenna et al.(2012). Totally 2,942 students chosen according toconvenience sampling method participated in the survey. In accordancewith the purpose of the study, confirmatory factor analysis, multigroupCFA and MANOVA were employed in the study. According to results of the study;(1) Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted on the 21items for a four-factor; academic digital, recreational digital, academicprint, and recreational print The reading attitudes model revealed a goodnessfit to the data (χ2113 = 5,169.30, p < 0.001, CFI = 0.87, TLI = 0.85, RMSEA= 0.08). (2) The high coefficient(r =0.741) between academic digitaland academic print may show that where reading for academic purposesis concerned, text type or medium makes little difference to korean adolescents. But the weak relationships between recreational digital and theother three factors was revealed. (3) The results of MANOVA to examinewhether an effect for gender, grade, and grade by gender existed for fourattitude factors, it was seen that the attitudes of high school students weremore positive than those of middle school students; the attitudes of femaleswere more positive than those of males.
