Teachers’ and Students’ Perceptions on Reading Education in the era of SMART education

Abstract
This survey study investigated 2,346 Korean teachers’ and students’ perceptions on reading education in the era of SMART education. This study found out that Korean teachers had positive attitude toward SMART education, except for the digital textbook use. They also showed a strong preference for reading printed text and put high value on it. Student, however, recognized positively the value of digital text. Finally, both teachers and students emphasized the necessity of various digital/printed informational texts and practice for critical and strategic reading skills for enhancing the quality of reading education which focused on educating literal works. Some implications were suggested for further research related to recent emphasis on characteristics of student readers and using digital texts in literacy classes.
