A Study on Topical Structure Analysis of Text by Writer’s Level of Writing

Abstract

This study aims to determine topical structure characteristic of types of text by writer’s level of writing. For this, topical structure of informative, persuasive, expressive text written by professional writer, high level college student writer, low level college student writer group using a new topical structure analysis method. Upon investigation, there is a difference in method of proceeding sentence topics of text to achieve certain communication purpose by writer’s level of writing. In case of informative, persuasive text, writer’s level of writing and the ratio of certain topical progression type in text were directly or inversely proportionate step by step. In expressive text, text structure difference by the stylistic traits of professional writer group and student group occurred. This study is significant in that it revealed the fact that text structure of text vary by writer’s level of writing based on positive data. Moreover, text structure analysis method used in this study is an analysis tool revealing qualitative characteristics of text, and can be used as an educational tool that can help writing and revising process of students.
