Abstract

This thesis aims to examine the characteristics of middle-school language textbooks in China and to suggest implications for Korean language education. First, we examined the general characteristics of the textbooks. Second, we analyzed the role of materials that constitute the core of Chinese language textbooks- as a model for the growth of language ability and a source of cultural pride and personality cultivation. Through a review of textbooks, we found three characteristics. First, the native language education in China is becoming increasingly oriented toward practicality. Second, Chinese educators are actively using their own cultural resources. Third, textbooks utilize a wide range of materials, including translation literature.
