Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore Korean language curriculum competencies in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era. To achieve this purpose, this study proposes an alternative framework by restructuring the Korean language curriculum competency framework based on preceding discourses on competencies for the Fourth Industrial Revolution as well as the role and identity of the Korean language in a rapidly changing society. Korean language curriculum competencies can be composed of critical and creative thinking competence, cooperative problem-solving competence, and competence of consideration and empathy with others, centering on communication competencies including multiple types of literacy. Korean language curriculum competencies can be cultivated by learning how to use language to solve problems of integrative and practical lives in convergent and complex contexts. In order to preemptively respond to external changes, attempts should be made to restructure the Korean language curriculum from various perspectives, and alternative designs of future-oriented Korean language education should be prepared.
