Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the needs for more expanded educational contents about the ‘Subject’ by examining textbooks and curricula of grammar education. In the meantime, the educational contents related to the subject are as follows. First, the contents have been focused on the obligatory arguments of the sentence, and the subject has been treated as a syntactic and morphologic concept within the scope of ‘one sentence’. Second, the contents has been mainly constructed in the dimension of accuracy in relation to the structure and concord of the sentence. Therefore, there has been a limitation to the experience and exploration of various aspects of the Korean subject. Based on the above discussions, we would suggest three directions in reconstruing educational contents. First, we could get linguistic typology to balance the viewpoint with other languages. Second, we could offer a multilayered perspective in describing subject and sentence. Third, we should include an understanding ‘genre’ as well as so called ‘grammar accuracy outlook’.
