대학교 신입생의 자료 통합적 글쓰기에서 필자의 공감 성향이 텍스트 선택에 미치는 영향

초록

이 연구는 대학교 신입생의 자료 통합적 글쓰기 수행에서 자료 텍스트의 선택이 어떻게 이루어지는지 살펴보고, 데이비스(Davis, 1980)가 개발한 관계반응척도(interpersonal reaction index, IRI)를 활용해 필자 요인의 한 가지로 개인의 공감 성향에 따라 그 수행이 어떻게 달라지는지 분석하였다. 연구의 주요 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 관계반응척도의 하위 범주 가운데 자료의 조직, 자료의 출처, 반박 논증의 활용, 독자 등을 두루 예측할 수 있는 요인은 인지적 요소에 해당하는 ‘관점 취하기’였다. 하지만 이는 필자와 상이한 태도가 아닌 유사한 태도를 공유하는 자료를 선택해 응집적으로 활용하는 데 유의미한 설명력을 제공한다는 점에서 일반적인 통념과 다른 결과를 보였다. 둘째, 공감의 정서적 요소에 해당하는 ‘공감적 관심’과 ‘개인적 고통’은 필자와 상이한 태도를 보이는 자료의 정보량과 정적 상관을 보였다. 셋째, ‘상상하기’, ‘개인적 고통’을 둘러싼 선행 연구의 논란은 이 연구에도 유효했다. 넷째, 전체 글에서 자료 텍스트에 기원한 내용과 필자 자신이 생성한 내용의 비중은 공감 성향의 어느 범주와도 유의하지 않았다.
