인쇄물 읽기와 디지털 읽기 비교 관련 선행연구 고찰 — 디지털 전환 시대 속 책 읽기 교육의 방향 탐색

초록
오늘날 우리가 속한 사회는 급격히 디지털 사회로 재편되고 있으며 이는 사람들의 독서 방식에도 영향을 미치고 있다. 그러나 디지털 읽기의 필요성을 인정한다고 할지라도, 디지털 기반 읽기 교육 방식이 독자에게 긍정적으로만 작용하고 있는지에 대하여 비판적으로 검토할 필요가 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 인쇄물 읽기와 디지털 읽기의 개념적 범위나 특성을 비교하여 살펴보았다. 그 결과 인쇄물 읽기와 디지털 읽기는 텍스트에서의 의미 구성이라는 측면에서는 유사하나 매체 양식, 텍스트의 초점, 독자-텍스트 상호작용 측면에서 차이가 있었음을 알 수 있었다. 그다음으로 인쇄물과 디지털 화면의 매체성을 비교한 선행연구 및 메타 분석 연구를 살펴보았다. 분석 결과 인쇄물 읽기가 디지털 읽기보다 학생들의 독해 능력에 다소 긍정적인 기여를 하였으며, 이러한 결과는 디지털 원주민이라고 하는 젊은 세대에도 유사하게 나타났다. 그리고 그러한 차이를 나타난 원인을 멀티태스킹으로 인한 주의력 분산, 디지털 텍스트 구조가 주는 인지적 부담, 시각적 피로도 등에서 찾아볼 수 있었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 현행 독서 교육을 비판적으로 되돌아보고 앞으로 나아갈 방향을 제언하였다.
