중학생의 읽기 능력 발달에 관한 종단 연구 - 잠재 계층 분석을 활용한 집단 유형과 읽기 동기의 영향 요인을 중심으로

초록

본 연구는 읽기 능력의 양극화 현상을 실증적으로 규명하고자, 중학교1학년(1차 측정)과 3학년(2차 측정)에 걸쳐 동일 대상을 종단적으로 추적하여 읽기 능력 발달 양상을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 잠재 계층 분석(LCA)과 다항 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 전체적으로 읽기 능력은 유의미하게 향상되었으나, 학생 간 읽기 능력 격차는 오히려 확대되는 경향을보였다. 세부 영역별로는 사실적 이해와 추론적 이해에서 발달 양상이 뚜렷하였으며, 성별에 따른 차이 또한 시간이 지남에 따라 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 특히 잠재 계층 분석 결과, 읽기 능력은 상·중·하 세 집단으로 구분되었으며, 중간 집단의 비율이 감소하고 상·하 집단 간 양극화가 심화되는 양상이 확인되었다. 아울러 읽기 동기가 읽기 능력 수준을 유의미하게 예측하는변수로 작용함을 밝혔다. 궁극적으로, 본 연구는 읽기 능력의 발달 이력을 추적하고, 이에 대한 연속적이고 체계적인 관리의 필요성을 제안한다.
