There are 75 millions of native speakers of Korean in the peninsula and 7millions abroad. And there are 742 universities in 64 countries in the world which have Korean Studies or offer Korean language courses. And there are hundreds of high schools in the world which provide with Korean language as a foreign language, also. There are more than 2070 Korean weekend schools in 94 countries and 26 regular formal schools in 14 countries. These statistics show that Korean language is ranked in top ten languages in the world. This is also evidenced that US government included Korean as the ninth language in the SAT II. And PCT also included Korean as one of formal languages which consist of 10 international languages like English. This fact says Korean is one of the globalized language so that it requires global standard in teaching Korean as a second or foreign language.
