Abstract

This study is to analyze statement forms of the 2011 revised Korean language curriculum content achievement standards for appropriateness. In addition, taking into account of characteristics of curriculum documents and Korean language curriculum and objectives of stating curriculum content as ‘achievement standards’, it is necessary to find out ways toward a better method of statement forms for achievement standards. Firstly, the study analyzed 116 statements on curriculum content achievement standards, categorized them into content, activity and performance ability based statements and carefully reviewed them accordingly. As a result it is found that the 2011 revised Korean language curriculum is mainly based on statement forms of achievement standards. However, there are many other statements on content, activity and performance ability basis. Nonetheless, statements centered on performance abilities that are also achievement standard statements tend to indicate a lack of clarity due to insufficient information on achievement activity standards in the end. In consideration of characteristics of Korean language curriculum, in order to realize purposes of introduction of statement forms on achievement standards, it is requested that more necessary information be added to the statements on achievement standards enabling performance ability centered statements to be used and their meanings to make more clear senses.
