국어과 교육과정의 새로운 방향

초록
앞으로의 새로운 국어과 교육과정은 국어과 교육의 본질에 충실하게 기여하는 방향으로 설계되고 개선되어야 할 것이다. 이를 위해서는 표현 활동과 이해 활동의 과정에서 학습자의 창의적 태도와 정서를 중시하는 방향으로 내용 선정이 이루어져야 할 것이며, 지식에 대한 언어적 표상 활동과 비언어적 표상 활동이 창의적인 방식으로 이루어질 수 있도록 학생들을 최선의 방식으로 지원하고 안내할 수 있도록 국어과 교육과정의 내용을 선정해야 할 것이다. 국어과 교육과정의 내용은 결국 사려 깊고 격조 높은 국어활동을 할 수 있는 사람을 최선의 방식으로 길러 낼 수 있는 방향에서 선정되어야 할 것이다. 새로운 국어과 교육과정에서의 영역 구분에서는 다음과 같은 사항을 중시할 필요가 있다. 첫째, 국어 활동의 양식을 기준으로 내용 영역을 설정할 필요가 있으며, 현행 교육과정과의 연계성을 고려하여 말하기, 듣기, 읽기, 쓰기의 네 영역으로 구분하는 것이 바람직할 것이다. 둘째, 21세기의 사회에서 요구되는 새로운 문식력에 대한 요구를 적극적으로 반영해야 할 것이며, 읽기 영역에는 보기 관련 활동을, 쓰기 영역에는 나타내기 관련 활동을 포함시켜야 할 것이다. 셋째, 문학 텍스트에 대한 학습 활동은 지식과 전략과 태도․가치․신념을 중심으로 하여 언어 사용 활동의 네 영역 모두에 걸쳐 이루어져야 할 것이다. 넷째, 기존 국어지식 영역의 내용은 언어 사용 활동의 네 영역 모두에 걸쳐 실제적인 방식으로 다루어져야 할 것이다.
