초록

초등학생의 읽기 태도 발달에 관한 국제 비교 -한국과 미국을 중심으로-윤준채이 논문의 목적은 우리나라와 미국 초등학생들의 읽기 태도 발달 경향을 비교하는데 있다. 이 연구를 통해 발견한 첫 번째 사실은 학년을 가로질러 우리나라 초등학생들의 읽기 태도가 미국 초등학생들의 그것보다 높지만 고학년으로 올라갈수록 그 차이가 줄어들고 있다는 것이다. 또한 이러한 발달 경향은 성별을 가로질러서도 나타난다. 두 번째 사실은 학년과 성별을 가로질러 우리나라 학생들의 여가를 위한 읽기 태도가 미국 학생들의 그것보다 높지만, 고학년으로 올라갈수록 그 차이가 줄어들고 있다는 것이다. 특히, 우리나라와 미국 여학생들의 여가를 위한 읽기 태도에서의 차이는 고학년으로 올라가면서 사라졌다, 반면에 학년과 성별을 가로질러 우리나라 학생들의 학습을 위한 읽기 태도는 미국 학생들의 그것보다 높았고, 이러한 경향은 저학년에서 뿐만 아니라 고학년에서도 지속되었다. 이러한 결과는 일차적으로 학생들의 기초적인 읽기 능력에서의 차이에서 기인했을 것으로 추정되며, 저학년에서보다는 고학년에서 보다 급격하게 일어나는 우리나라 학생들의 부정적인 읽기 태도 발달 경향, 특히 여가를 위한 읽기 태도에서의 부적인 발달 경향은 독자의 읽기 목적의 변화 및 독자에게 의미 있는 타자들의 읽기에 대한 인식의 변화에서 찾을 수 있을 것이다.
