교사들의 텍스트 유형별 선호와 인식 연구 －‘정보 텍스트’에 대한 논의를 중심으로－

초록

이 논문은 ‘정보 텍스트’에 초점을 맞추어서, 초․중․고등학교 교사들의 텍스트 유형별 선호와 인식을 탐구한 양적 연구이다. 연구 문제는 1) 텍스트 유형과 연계된 교사들의 독서 인식과 독서 활동, 2) 교과서 수록 텍스트(흥미도, 다양성)에 대한 교사들의 인식과 평가, 3) 텍스트 유형별 난이도․흥미도․교육 비중에 대한 교사들의 인식이었다. 약 200명의 국어과와 타 교과 교사들이 설문에 참여하였고, 181부의 설문지와 20명의 교사 인터뷰 내용을 중심으로 결과를 분석하였다. 이 연구의 결과, 우리나라 교사들은 학교급이나 교과목을 막론하고 ‘정보 텍스트’에 대한 선호나 인식이 저조한 것으로 나타났다. 연구 문제별로 결과를 정리하면, 교사들의 독서 목적에 대한 인식과 독서 활동은 인격 도야와 훈육, 개인적 만족을 위한 문학 중심의 ‘교양 독서’인 것으로 나타났다. 학생들이 다독해야 하는 텍스트의 유형, 권장 도서나 국어 교과서의 제재 비중에 대한 인식도 문학 텍스트 중심인 것으로 밝혀졌다. 교과서의 제재에 대한 교사들의 인식과 평가는 흥미나 다양성 측면에서 대체로 부정적이었고, 국어 교과서에 가장 많이 수록된 텍스트 유형으로는 1~3순위 모두 문학 텍스트가 지목되었다. 텍스트 유형별 난이도는 ‘정보 텍스트’를 지칭하는 용어(비문학, 정보를 전달하는 글 등)에 따라서 교사들의 인식이 크게 달라지는 흥미로운 결과가 나타났다. 이 연구는 독서 교육의 주체인 교사들(국어 교사 포함)의 장르 인식과 선호가 문학에 편중되어 있음을 보여준다. 국가․사회․시대에 요구를 반영하여, 교육용 텍스트의 불균형 문제를 해결하기 위해서는 향후 ‘정보 텍스트’와 관련된 연구와 교사 교육이 필요함을 시사하고 있다.
