In this article, we reviewed the history of the education of Korean language and literature in liberal education. The Korean language and literature in liberal education encompasses linguistics, literature, the tradition of korean culture, writing and more. Because of these varieties it is difficult to find competent people for teaching as well as what Korean language and literature is. Further, for the composition class, it was difficult to find time to do actual writing and then receive corrections. In order to resolve these problems, it would be ideal to form special subject classes for each specialty field so that unique characteristics of each subject can be presented. To carry out this approach, a composition class is presented as a required class while the rest is presented as optional classes. As the education of Koran language and literature in liberal education as a core curriculum are divided into several classes, the material itself has been going through changes. The education of Korean language and literature in liberal education includes many writings with primary focus on reading. But as each field has been made an independent class by itself, there has been more focus on practicality and as a result there has been surfacing differences between universities. In the future as the society we live in go through changes, we must seek corresponding changes to the values of the education of Korean language in universities.
