The Value of KWL Model in Korean Language Education

Abstract
The KWL Model was originally developed as teaching reading model about expository texts. We can discover various positive values of this model when we use this model in korean language education. First, this teaching model can be naturally changed to students' reading strategy. Second, we can expand the procedure of this model or combine this model with any other model because of its simplicity. Third, We can apply this model not only to reading expository texts but also to reading any other kinds of texts and to any other kinds of language activity such as writing etc. Fourth, we can use this model in order to increase students' creativity and their self-directed learning ability because this model has learner-centered properties. Finally, we can use the results which was produced by KWL activities as tools of assessment. But we can expect some problem which will be followed from using this model. First, it is possible that students study on only their own concerns and that the difference among students' comprehension occurs. Second, it is difficult that this model is applied to retarded student.
