Exploring Multimodal Literacy Practices through Observing Designing Slides for Presentation by Korean Adolescents

Abstract
This study aimed to analyze Korean adolescents’ presentation through observing designing slides. A total of eight middle school teams and seven high school teams qualified for this competition. The size of each team varied from five to six students. We discovered the following multimodality patterns when students practiced their presentation: 1) the visualization of the text by using typography(word arts), 2) the structuralization of the contents in slides by using bulleted lists, graphics(smart arts), and animation, 3) interaction image and text. Slideware, such as PowerPoint and Prezi, a represents a form of cutting-edge technology that generates exciting opportunities for writing and speaking. Through presentation, students are able to produce various multimodal text, including text, images, and video. The study provide empirical accounts of adolescents’ presentation.
