중학생의 읽기 효능감 구성 요인 연구

초록

읽기 효능감이란, 독자가 구체적인 읽기 과제 상황 하에 읽기 과제를 성공적으로 수행시킬 수 있으리라는 신념이다. 읽기 효능감은 독자가 읽기를 선택하도록 이끌고, 읽기 제재의 수준을 결정하며 읽기 과제의 지속성이나 과정상에서 전략이나 기능을 조절하도록 하는데 매우 큰 영향을 미친다. 읽기 효능감은 읽기 행위 및 수행에 있어 매우 중요한 역할을 담당하며 이 요인에 대한 교육적 관심이 보다 요구된다. 이 연구는 이를 위한 기초 연구로서 중학생들의 읽기 효능감 구성 요인을 조사하고, 이들 간의 성별과 학년별 차이를 살펴보고자 하였다. 경기, 경북, 충북 지역의 869명의 중학생들을 대상으로 결과를 분석하였으며, 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 읽기 효능감은 총 4개 요인으로 구성되며 이러한 요인들이 설명하는 변량의 크기는 60.935%로 나타났다. 읽기 효능감을 구성하는 요인은 설명 변량의 크기순으로 ‘독해 기능(44.741%)’, ‘사회적 인정(7.661%)’, ‘독해 향상(4.817%)’, ‘생리적 상태(3.716%)’이다. 둘째, 사회적 인정, 독해 향상 요인에서는 남학생이 더 높은 점수를 얻었고, 독해 기능과 생리적 상태 요인에서는 여학생이 더 높은 점수를 얻었다. 그러나 중학생들의 읽기 효능감은 모든 요인에서 통계적으로 유의한 성별 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 셋째, 읽기 효능감 구성 요인들의 평균은 학년이 올라갈수록 감소하였다. 1학년과 3학년의 통계적으로 유의한 차이는 모든 요인에서 발견되었으나, 독해 향상 요인에서는 2학년과 3학년의 차이도 발견되었다. 이 차이는 통계적으로 유의했다.
