Integrated Approach to Literacy Instruction Presented in the Korean Language Curriculum

Abstract

This study investigated the aspect of integrated approach to literacy instruction which was presented from the 1st Korean Language Curriculum to the 2011 Revised Korean Language Curriculum. As a results, a few aspects related integrated approach to literacy instruction were discovered such as followings. Basically, it was revealed the position that recognizes the necessity of integrated approach and recommend the use of it in the Korean Language Curriculum. From the 1st Korean Language Curriculum to the 3rd Korean Language Curriculum, the necessity of integrated approach was emphasized based on the totality of the activities of use language. In the 2007 Revised Korean Language Curriculum, various bases for the necessity of integrated approach was presented. But in the 2007 Revised Korean Language Curriculum and the 2011 Revised Korean Language Curriculum putting a stress on the totality of the activities of use language was the common with the previous Korean Language Curriculum. Integrated approach between the subjects was mainly showed in the 1st Korean Language Curriculum and 2nd Korean Language Curriculum. After the 4th Korean Language Curriculum, the integrated approach between the fields was placed emphasis on. It was classified integrated instruction between the fields. One is integrating speaking and writing and listening and reading, and the other is integrating the fields of grammar and literature and those of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The first has a tendency to appear in the elective curriculum in the high school. Integrated approach in the same field was introduced in the 2007 Revised Korean Language Curriculum and the 2011 Revised Korean Language Curriculum. This was related to newly-established the contents elements in the 2007 Revised Korean Language Curriculum. This study will provide valuable aid for those who are in search of information about the integrated approach in the Korean Language Curriculum.
