Abstract

The objective of this study is to explore specific method for integrating sentence education and reading education. In order to integrate the sentence education and reading education, sentences should be interpreted in the concept that can be connected with language use by focusing on the fact that 'it is possible to put human thought into sentences.'The need to integrate the sentence education and reading education has been initiated by trying to effectively achieve the educational goals of Korean Language when integrating these two fields. Thus, when integrating these two fields, they should not establish relationships that only one side unilaterally needs the other or exploits as a means, but rather that the both sides need the essential attributes of each field. From this perspective, a method of integrating the sentence education and reading education was specifically suggested. According to the characteristics of the grammar education, the sentence education was considered how knowledge is constructed in human thought. Therefore, the component of sentence education consists of 'knowledge of sentence, knowledge of sentence in the process to use Korean, consideration of social and cultural context, and attitude toward Korean.' As for the reading education, reading variable and skills were considered. Therefore, the reading educational component that can be integrated with the sentence education consists of both the variables such as 'readers' background knowledge of sentences, text genre and structure related to authors, and intratextually social and cultural context' and the functions such as 'decoding, inference, evaluation, and appreciation.' According to this method, we realized them by consolidating the standard of the middle school curriculum in the 2011 Curriculum of Korean Language Education.
