Abstract
The purpose of this article is to introduce 'Symbolic Representation Interview(SRI)' originally invented by Patricia Enciso. This method encourages reflections through visualization of ideas to make reading visible. In a symbolic representation interview, the individual readers create symbols to represent their reading process and response to literature. Then, they explain the hidden meanings and their intentions of those symbols making connections to their own reading experiences. This method provide meaningful opportunities for introspection and enhance each reader's ability to express a multiplicity within both cognitive and aesthetic experience through the combination of a student-generated activity and a pair/group discussion. This study first reviews the concept and the major characteristics of the symbolic representation interview. Some guidelines and comments are provided for teachers and researchers after delineating the portraits of three Korean readers who applied the SRI method.
